2017 Ford Escape Redesign

Though no one was complaining about the previous models, the 2017 Ford Escape was redesigned to incorporate some new features that Indianapolis Ford lovers are bound to appreciate. With 3 engine options and a whole new technology package, it’s hard to say anything bad about the redesign unless you simply don’t like technology. Even so, the Ford Escape offers more than one new thing for the 2017 model, and we are pretty sure you’re going to like them all.

Engine Options

Buyers have three different engine sizes to choose from. The 1.5L EcoBoost offers 180 hp with a 185 lb.-ft. torque package. This engine coupled with the six speed automatic transmission goes from zero to sixty in 9.5 seconds and offers a top speed of 125, though no one is saying you should test those limits. The 2.5L naturally aspirating engine offers a bit less horsepower than the 1.5L at 168 hp. The 2.0L turbocharged EcoBoost version packs a bit more punch with 275 hp.

One of the best features about the 2017 Ford Escape is the idle-stop. Aimed at reducing pollution and even saving gas, it shuts the motor down when you are sitting at a red light. Sound complicated? It’s not. The motor jumps right back into action when you’re ready to take off, and does it so smoothly that you may even forget you have this feature, but the environment and your wallet will thank you.

External Differences

There are noticeable differences in the bumper, grille, and a few small changes to the body. The grille is no longer six-sided, and the headlights are now HID with LED running lights for daytime use. The front bumper sports a center cutout, as well as symmetrical hollows on either side. You can also see the low mounted air deflectors and front parking sensors that just made urban settings a whole lot easier to navigate.

Perhaps in an effort to make the Escape look a bit beefier, designers added an accent line that runs the length of the car through the handles. With different taillights, a 2” trailer hitch receiver, and dual exhaust tips, even the rear end is sporting a new look.

SYNC Technology

Expect to be relying on SYNC 3 technology that you can pair with your iPhone 5 and up, or Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and greater. SYNC technology means that updates will come through Wi-Fi so car owners never have to worry about losing compatibility. Both iPhone and Android bring new technology to the table in the form of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so drivers can essentially have the same technology they use at home right at their fingertips without having to learn a new operating system.

Between the exterior upgrades and the introduction of some of the newest technology on the market, the Escape has seen some significant changes. At the same time, it didn’t lose anything that made it the crossover SUV that everyone seems to enjoy so much.
